Agnes Sharer, 88, of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family at The Waters on Mayowood, Rochester, MN on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Aggie was born in Waupun, WI, on November 5, 1934, the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (McRobert) Broadway. On June 23, 1956, in Waupun, WI, she was united in marriage to Donn G. Sharer, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2018.
Aggie grew up in Waupun, WI, and graduated from Waupun schools. Upon graduating from high school as co-valedictorian, she attended UW-Madison on a full-ride music scholarship majoring in Secondary Business Education. While at Madison, she enjoyed playing in the band and was involved in several honor sororities. After graduating from Madison and her marriage to Donn, she taught at Oshkosh High School. Upon Donn’s graduation from Oshkosh, the couple moved to Wausau and Aggie taught for a year at Wausau East High School. While the kids were little, Aggie taught night school at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. After raising her children, Aggie went back to teaching full time and furthered her education by obtaining a master’s degree in Vocational-Technical Education from UW-Stout. During this time, she started full-time at Northcentral Technical College and was responsible for co-developing and instructing in the Legal Secretary degree program. She also started the Legal Secretary Club for students. She retired in 1995.
During Aggie’s free time she enjoyed travelling, playing recorders, playing bridge, book club, investment club, golfing, and spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. After retirement, Donn and Aggie spent four months each winter in Venice, FL. Excelling in playing recorders, Donn and Aggie enjoyed going to recorder camps, attending camps from Ojai, CA to Boston, MA, to Cherry Hill, NJ, and many times to UW-Whitewater in Whitewater, WI.
Aggie is survived by her four children: Kathie (Larry) Plapp of Delavan, WI, Donn, Jr. (Robin) of Millstone Township, NJ, Frederick of Wausau, WI, and Janet (Ed) Plein of Kasson, MN. She has five grandchildren: Megan Plapp, Abby and Micah Sharer, Zac (Mary) and Andy Plein. Aggie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding Aggie in death were her husband, parents, siblings, several nieces and nephews, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held an hour before the service on Saturday, January 21, 2023, starting at 10:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor John Weisenburger officiating. Inurnment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Madison, WI, at a later date.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Waters on Mayowood Specialty Care unit and Seasons Hospice for all their excellent and compassionate care of Aggie. Assisting the family in making arrangements is the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, Kasson, MN.
