Alvina Lavonne Hubmer

Alvina LaVonne Hubmer, 93, of rural Dodge Center, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 at her home with family by her side. She was born in Wasioja Township on April 1, 1927 and was raised on the family farm with a large apple orchard.  She attended the Wasioja School, was class Valedictorian of Kasson High School, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She taught business education at Kenyon High School and later was a substitute teacher at local schools.

Alvina married David Roy Hubmer on June 19, 1949 and lived on their Eden farm the rest of her life. She was an active member of the Dodge Center United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for over 20 years, taught Sunday School and was also a member of Circle and other church activities. She was an enthusiastic member of the Eden Mothers Club for nearly 70 years and was the Eden news reporter for local papers over many years.

Alvina enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and abroad, collecting postcards, seashells and taking copious travel notes. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and baking, especially known for her gingerbread boys and tea rings. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and preserving her produce. Her life was devoted to being a loving wife, a nurturing mother to her 4 children, and was a beloved grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Randy) Hanson of Eden Prairie, and Karen (Glenn) Johnson of Two Harbors; two sons, Paul of Claremont, and Neal of Dodge Center; six grandchildren, Sara (Ian) Goodson, Corey Hanson, Katie Hanson; Heather Johnson, Heidi (Craig) Selvog, Tyler Johnson; four great grandchildren, Connor Goodson, Wesley Goodson, Caroline Selvog, and Laura Selvog; cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents Ed and Caroline Hansen, husband David Hubmer, brother Clinton Hansen, sister-in-law Lura Hansen, grandson Kyle Hanson, and nephews Bruce and Jeff Hansen.

A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Dodge Center United Methodist Church or the West Concord Historical Society.
