Arvid Robert Johnson, 86, of Rochester, MN and formerly of Hayfield passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Arvid was born in Hayfield, MN on April 20, 1932. He was the third of three children born to Alfred and Geneva (Spiten) Johnson. Arvid married Norma Lee on August 30, 1950. They lived and farmed in Hayfield until 1964. From there they moved to Rochester, MN where they raised their nine children. Arvid was employed by Marigold Foods for 25 years. After retirement in 1988, the farm roots called them back to rural Hayfield to an 80 acre hobby farm. If he wasn't in the fields, you could find Arvid in his shop where throughout a 25 year span he restored and collected antique tractors. His favorite being John Deere. He enjoyed taking the tractors to an annual threshing event and also to many parades. Arvid enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, he loved telling jokes and playing cards. He was a good Norwegian man who kept his heritage alive with an annual Lutefisk dinner with his family. Arvid was a member of Bethel Lutheran church, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed.
Arvid is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Johnson, Rochester, MN; 8 children, Daniel (Gail) Johnson, Pine River, MN; Susan (Steven) Laack, Cherry Grove, MN; Randy (Kathy) Johnson, Kasson, MN; Ricky (Tammy) Johnson, Rochester, MN; Linda Johnson, Rochester, MN; Jeff (Virginia) Johnson, West Concord, MN; Brad Johnson, Rochester, MN; Tammy (Ray) Ellison, Rochester, MN; 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Arvid is preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters, Ruby and Delores, 2 sons, Duane and Leslie, and a grandson, Cory.
Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 3rd Avenue SE, Rochester, MN with Pastor Anjanette Bandel officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
