Audrey Gail Highum

Audrey Gail Durst was born April 29, 1939, in Pine Island, Minnesota, Goodhue County to Victor and Hylah Durst. The eldest of seven children, she was raised south of Pine Island. The family then moved to north of Milton where her father farmed. She attended country school.

Audrey graduated from Kasson-Mantorville in 1957. During high school she met her future husband, Edward Highum. Audrey and Edward were married on October 10, 1959. They lived at various locations and then built their home northeast of Mantorville. Audrey was employed by IBM, then the City of Byron where she was the Assistant City Administrator until her retirement.

Audrey enjoyed traveling (her and Edward traveled extensively while Edward worked for IBM). Many stories were told of their adventures (and some looong slideshows). She also enjoyed needlepoint, feeding the many birds, squirrels (and mice) around their home.

She took excellent care of her husband Edward after he suffered a stroke in 1995. She always had a funny comment or words of insight on any issue. She will be missed immensely.

Survivors include her sons, Eric (Robin) Highum of Howell, Michigan, Jay Highum of Rochester, Minnesota. Six siblings - Allen (Alice) Durst of Mantorville, Kenneth (Janice Borgstrom) Durst of Kasson, Minnesota, Linda (David) Kennedy of West Concord, Minnesota, Ron (Lois) Durst of Mantorville, Minnesota, Vickie Broughton of Rochester, Minnesota, and Mary (Dick) Sitta of Lake City, Minnesota. She is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Hylah Durst, her sister-in-law Marsha Durst, her nephews Patrick Kennedy and Kraig Durst, and her niece, Terrie Connelly.

Visitation will take place at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes-Kasson (801 7th St SE, Kasson, MN 55944) on Thursday, July 21st, 2022, from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00am on Friday July 22nd, 2022, with a private funeral service for family and close friends following the visitation. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville, MN.
