The memorial service for Beth Carolyn Hartung of Dodge Center, MN will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Mantorville, MN.
Beth Hartung, 84, died on December 2, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
Beth Carolyn (Proper) Hartung, was born on July 24, 1924, to James and Gertrude Proper in Milton Township in Dodge County MN. She spent 8 years at the Milton School #5 and graduated from Mantorville High School in 1941. She attended the Minnesota School of Business and found a job with Rochester Dairy working in the office and driving the ice cream truck during WW II.
Beth married Elmer H. Hartung, M.D. on Dec. 1st 1951, in Dodge Center and raised two sons, Brian and Donald in Claremont, MN. She was an active member of the Republican Party and the 1st Presbyterian Church in Claremont, and a charter member of the Dodge County Historical Society.
Beth had an avid love and concern for people and was involved with many organizations including the Lion’s Club, the Portage-Crooked Lake Association, and the Crosby Presbyterian Church. In recent years she spent much of her time helping at the Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center. The family believes that she would have wished for any memorials be sent to the nursing home to help them with their goal of purchasing a van for the residents.
Beth is survived by one son, Donald (and wife Marg); one grandson, Adam (and wife Sarah); one granddaughter, Alison (and husband Jason); great-grandchildren, Ella, Declan, Adeline, Quinlan, and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her son Brian (2008), her husband Elmer (1973), and her sister Angeline (1966).
Visitation will be from 9:00–11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Mantorville. Inurnment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville.
Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Dodge Center will be in charge of arrangements.
