BRUCE BARTON GILLARD

The memorial service for Bruce Barton Gillard will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 Central Avenue North in Dodge Center with Reverend David Fechner officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center with the Claremont American Legion Post #422.
Bruce Barton Gillard, 87, of Dodge Center, died on June 30, 2009, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Bruce Barton Gillard was born on December 19, 1921, the son of Jesse and Irene (Barber) Gillard in Myrtle, MN. He graduated from West Concord High School in 1941. He served four years in the Marine Corp with the highest rank as Staff Sergeant and was stationed in the South Pacific for 28 months. In 1947, Bruce married Audrey Wiberg in Minneapolis. Bruce was a dairy farmer in the Claremont area. Bruce held various offices at the Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont. He also served on the Claremont School Board and the Claremont Township Board. He was a member of the Gideon’s International, and a member of the Claremont American Legion for 62 years. He retired from farming in 1984, and the couple moved to Dodge Center in 1993. Bruce was very proud of and enjoyed his family. He also enjoyed reading, making things out of iron, and Civil War history.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Audrey, Dodge Center, MN; sons, Robert and Kris, Plano, TX; John and Gail, Hutchinson, MN; James and Diane, Hastings, MN; David and Gail, Castle Rock, CO; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 1 sister, 2 sons, Thomas and Richard; and 1 granddaughter, Marit.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
