CAREY “PAPA” LEWIS NITZ

Carey Lewis Nitz “PAPA”, 65, of Stewartville, MN passed away Monday, December 2, 2019 peacefully at home. Former resident of Baroda and Reading, Michigan.

There will be a memorial gathering on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Czaplewski Funeral Home, 501 2 ^nd Street NW in Hayfield, MN.

Carey was born in Saint Joseph, MI on June 19, 1954. He graduated from Lakeshore High School in 1972. Years later, he attended the Methodist Theological Seminary of Ohio, helping his wife, Kathy, in earning a pastoral degree.

Carey was married to Pamela Bigelow on June 19, 1976; they had three children. Carey married Kathy Harris on December 15, 1990; they were married 28 years.

Carey worked as a general laborer for Hilex in Hillsdale, MI prior to becoming disabled due to medical conditions. He spent several years entertaining as a Magician and Santa Claus. He enjoyed fishing, singing, family and friends; but especially his grandchildren. He actively attended Cedar Creek Church in Hayfield, MN.

Carey is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Autumn (Dontae) Hampton, Tacy Nitz, Brandon (Denise) Nitz and Jennifer French; grandchildren, Zachary, Mason, Desira, Alex, Kaitlyn, Zenovia, Brynnleigh and Athena; brothers, David Vacek, Lathel and Lonnie Young; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ethel Nitz; brother, Curtis Nitz and sister, Cheryl Young.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the family. The family of Carey Lewis Nitz wishes to thank the Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant Team, Pulmonary Hypertension and Dialysis Center staff, Mayo Clinic Chaplin Services. Blessed be his memory.
