The memorial service for Celia Mae Olbrich will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Street, in Claremont, MN with Reverend Dr. Joe Jones officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 South Street SW in Dodge Center, MN. Celia Whitt Olbrich, 80, of Claremont, MN passed away peacefully on February 23rd, 2013, surrounded by her family at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN. Celia was born November 8th 1932, in Maryville, MO to her parents Owen and Carrie Jane (Clements) Whitt. As a young girl she lived in Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas City during WWII. Her family then moved to Harvard, IL in 1946, where she graduated from Harvard High School in 1951. She married John Raymond Olbrich at the First Presbyterian Church in Harvard, IL on September 6th, 1952. John joined the army in 1954, and for a while they lived in Kirkland, WA. They returned to Harvard, IL in June 1956, where they continued farming. While in Illinois they opened their home to several foster daughters and continued to foster girls from Illinois after they moved to Claremont, MN in December 1968. Celia worked as a secretary at the Claremont Schools before managing Celia’s Shoppe, which specialized in alterations and gifts, in Claremont and then worked at Minnesota Fabrics in Owatonna. Celia was an active 4-H leader in Illinois and Minnesota. She enjoyed sewing all her life and was an excellent seamstress until she was disabled by a stroke in 1996. Celia also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling to Illinois and Missouri to visit family and friends, and participating in the women’s group at church. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John, four children, David (Lori) Olbrich of Moorpark, CA; Carrie (Steve) Laue of Dodge Center, MN; Allison (Craig) Ross of Claremont, MN; and Carol Liming of Owatonna, MN; eight grandchildren; Danielle (Tony) Bower, Michael Laue, Ryan (Breanna) Laue, Andrea (Chris) Franko, Margret Olbrich, John (fiancé Courtney) Liming, Brandon Ross, and Samantha Liming; 6 great grandchildren with anticipation of 2 more; sister, Mary Catherine Skarshaug; brother, Dale Whitt; and extended family including foster daughters Donna (Randy) Hagen, their four daughters, one grandchild, and another in anticipation of Dodge Center, MN; Janet (Larry) Hermanson and their two children of Rockford, IL; and Mary (Kevin) Anderson and their two children of Owatonna, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Claremont or a cancer charity of your choice.
