DAROLD PATRICK QUESNEL
Darold P. Quesnel passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 10th 2009 at Field Crest Care Center. Darold was a long time resident of Dodge Center, Minnesota and the former Chief of Police. Darold was born on June 24th 1926, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Darold served in the Navy in WWII from 1943-1946. He was a radar man first class and was in many battles in the South Pacific, including the battle for Leyte. His Destroyer, the USS Collette was one of the first American ships to enter Tokyo Bay while the war was still being waged. He returned to Minnesota after military service and settled in the St. Paul area. He was a long time police officer and served in several law enforcement agencies, including St. Paul Aqua Patrol and Ham Lake Police Department. Darold enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking.
Darold was married to Marlys Lecy (Blood) and was later divorced. Darold and Margaret Rohwer (Schletty) were married on April 15th 1978. Darold is survived by his wife Margaret, his brothers, Bob and Wayne. He is also survived by his sons, Chuck (Kim) in Eagan, MN; Mike (Barb) in Shakopee, MN; Patrick (Tracey) in Gulf Breeze, FL, Doug in Gulf Breeze, FL; and Robert (Lynne) in Portland, OR; his daughter Cherie Walters (Rick) Fairmont, MN; and Margaret’s children, Rick (Julie) Schletty, Brenda Greene (Bruce) and Becky Schletty (Doug). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Darold was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Bies.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 20th at Czaplewski Funeral Home in Dodge Center and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21st 2009, at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church in Dodge Center with Reverend William Kulas celebrating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery with military honors by the Dodge Center American Legion #384.
