EDNA ARNITA LENZ

There will be a memorial service for Edna at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 2nd Street SE in Hayfield.


Our dear mother, Edna, died peacefully on January 15, 2018 in Hayfield, Minnesota, at age ninety-nine. She was born in Claire City, South Dakota, on November 26, 1918, the fourth of nine children of Edward and Alma (Anderson) Widman, Sr., where she grew up on the family farm. She was a graduate of Sisseton, South Dakota, High School. She married Rick Lenz on June 14, 1936 and they had 6 children before moving to Hayfield, Minnesota in 1957. There they had their youngest child, Carolyn, in 1958. In October 2014, she moved into the Field Crest Care Center. She was very involved in her church, Trinity Lutheran, and what flowed out of that was a dedicated wife, a mother raising her children in the faith and a cherished grandmother. Surviving are her children: Marilynn (Dean) Kempton, Virginia (Glenn) Knutson, Diane (Norman) Zacherson, Rick (Shirley), Mark (Ann) and Roxanne (Jim) Evans; sisters: Esther Bisset and LaVonne Fernicola, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and five, soon to be six, great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick, in 1997, just before their 61st wedding anniversary; daughter, Carolyn; two grandchildren: Susan Kempton Bollinger and John Kempton; one great grandson, Jimmy Fondy; her parents, four sisters and two brothers. A celebration of life will be held later in the Spring. We praise God for her and her faithfulness to Him and for being such a loving, caring mother.
