Ella Alfrieda Mitchell

Ella Alfrieda Mitchell, 93, of Kasson, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus surrounded by her family.

Ella was born June 15, 1929, to Henry and Ella (Molkenthine) Dobberstein at their home in Waseca County, MN, where her mother died giving birth. She grew up there and graduated from Waldorf schools.   She went on to college in St. Paul, MN and became an LPN.  She lived and worked in the cities for a while, and then came to live with her relatives near Rochester, MN.  On the weekends she would go to the Playmore Ballroom, where she met her husband, Richard Mitchell.   She married Richard C. Mitchell on May 17, 1953, in Waldorf, MN. They lived in Rochester for a while and then started farming together.  After they quit farming in 1974, they moved to Kasson, MN.

Ella liked gardening, reading, sewing, and traveling.  She also liked to joke with people.  She will be missed and loved by all who know her.

Ella is survived by her daughters, Gail Mitchell of Kasson, MN and Kris (Jerry) Keckhafer of Rochester, MN; sons, Thomas Mitchell of Lanesboro, MN and Karl Mitchell of Kasson, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her son, Alan; her parents and Richard’s parents; and daughters-in-law, Donet Hashkens and Dawn Mitchell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN, with Reverend John Weisenburger officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Rochester, MN.
