EVELYN ELAINE BAUMAN

Evelyn (Evie) Elaine Bauman, 89, of Hayfield, MN passed away peacefully at Susies’ Place in Hayfield, MN on December 4, 2020.

Evelyn was born on June 21, 1931. She was the daughter of George and Ethel Distad of Hayfield, MN. Evelyn graduated from Hayfield High School and was united in marriage to Merlin Bauman, Junior on October 29, 1949. They lived on a farm in Red Rock Township for many years. She was a devoted mother to her five boys. Evelyn worked at Casey’s in Hayfield; the Dodge Center Canning Company in Dodge Center; Holiday Inn in Austin, MN as receptionist and 26 years at the Hayfield High School in Hayfield, as a secretary . She was a member of the Hayfield American Legion Auxiliary of Hayfield, MN. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was an ardent Vikings Fan and would ring her bell for every touch down that they would make. She loved going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, especially football and wrestling. Evie attended Christmas Programs, plays, and just for Kix. She loved listening to Garth Brooks and Freddy Fender. Her favorite things to do were reading, especially Danielle Steele books and doing Find a Word puzzles, going to Bingo and Casinos when she could. Evie always had her hair done every week at Sheila’s in Hayfield.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Craig (Janice) Bauman, Hayfield, MN; Todd Bauman, Valleyview, Owatonna, MN; Mark (Chris) Bauman, Fairmont, MN; and Jon (Wini) Bauman, Pequot Lakes, MN; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law Elaine Distad, Wabasha, MN; Bill and Pauline Bauman, Mesa, Arizona and Laverne and Lolabelle Nelson, Harrison, AR. Evelyn had 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Bauman; son, Lynn Bauman, two sisters, Inez (Bob) Neve; Irene (Phillip) Hovey, one brother, Nordeen Distad, and one great grandson, Theodore Peterson.

Evelyn was a very special and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by many, especially her family. She donated her body to science at Mayo in Rochester, MN. A Remembrance of Life is planned sometime in June of 2021.
