Glen Alvin Donley, 93, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at his home in Byron, MN. Glen was born in Kempton, IL to Floyd and Arretus (Wilson) Donley. Glen was a dedicated husband and his life was a testament to God, family, and farming.
Growing up in Kempton, IL he began working for a local farmer. In 1951, following his brother’s footsteps, Glen joined the Army as a paratrooper. He later moved to the explosives ordinance demolition team and was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. This is where Glen met Nelda Jean Adams (a young lady from Crofton, KY). Glen and Nelda were married February 16th, 1955, and moved to northern Illinois to farm with Glen’s brother, Paul.
Glen and Nelda had two sons Greg and Todd while farming for Adwell Corp. in the Perkin, IL. In 1965, they purchased their own 40-acre farm in Greenfield, IL and soon after expanded their farming efforts by raising hogs. In Greenfield, Glen was a substitute pastor at times and taught the high school bible study group. In 1973, during a drought in Greenfield and the desire to expand their farming operation, Glen and Nelda purchased the farm south of Bryon which became home for the last fifty years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Glen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nelda Jean Donley, and their sons Greg (Michelle) of Peoria, AZ, Todd (Tammy) of Byron, MN; grandchildren, Jessica (Daniel)Thomas of Byron, Megan (Peter) Suchoski of Shoreview, MN, Matt Clock of Byron, Nathaniel Donley of Glenwood Springs, CO, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters.
Glen Alvin Donley will forever be remembered for his charismatic personality, his dedication to Christ, and his devotion to his wife and family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the South Zumbro Lutheran Church, 68905 280th Ave, Kasson MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to South Zumbro Lutheran Church, Seasons Hospice, or another charity of your choice.
