HARLAN SYMOURE JOHNSON
Harlan Symoure Johnson, 91, of Hayfield, MN passed away on May 31, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Harlan was born on February 13, 1927, the son of Lancey and Cora (Hanson) Johnson in Steele County. He attended schools near Owatonna, receiving his GED diploma. Harlan was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 and honorably discharged in 1946.
Harlan was united marriage to Alyce M. Horsman on December 29, 1950. He worked as a salesman selling furniture and carpeting until 1953, then went to work for Geo A Hormel & Company as a salesman and retired in 1987.
Harlan was an active member in his church, Grace Lutheran in Fairmont, serving on the Board for three years. He volunteered with the 4-H Club, FFA, Martin County Fair Board for 12 years, secretary for three years and volunteered at the Fairmont Medical Center several years as an escort. Harlan received an award for Martin County Senior Citizen of the year in 2007. He was a member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge "Secretary for 10 years," and received the Hiram award for outstanding service to Free Masonry. The couple had no children of their own, but were honored with four God children. Harlan is survived by niece, Kari Frericks, Pine Island, MN; nephews Craig Mosser, Washington D.C.; David (Londa) Johnson, Hayfield, MN; Eric (Beverly) Johnson, Hayfield, MN; Jeffrey (Brenda) Johnson, Andover, MN; Willis (Dalynna) Johnson, Eagan, MN; Loring (Maureen) Johnson, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Chris Johnson, Lakewood, CO; sisters-in-law, Audrey Johnson and Jane Johnson and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alyce; nephew, Daniel Johnson and two brothers, Leo and Palmer Johnson.
Alyce went to the Lakeview Nursing Home on November 23, 2011, and passed away on June 17, 2015.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE in Hayfield. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. at the church with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Military honors by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post #330. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield is in charge of arrangements.
