HAROLD EUGENE "SONNY" HALVORSON

The memorial service for Harold Eugene "Sonny" Halvorson will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the American Legion Post 330, 7 Main Street East in Hayfield, MN. Visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at the Legion. Inurnment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Austin, MN.
Harold Eugene "Sonny" Halvorson, 77, passed away on December 18, 2012, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN.
Harold was born on May 10th, 1935, the son of Melvin and Hilda (Scharberg) Halvorson in Rock Dell Township, MN. He attended Austin Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964 with time spent in Germany. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Tieden on January 20, 1962, and together they had four children. They were later divorced. He also was married to Maria Garver and divorced. In 2001, he met Lucille Cook and they were together until her death in 2005. In Harold's lifetime he had worked at Stiver's Nursery and construction as a young man. He also worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, the Austin Public Library and Austin YMCA. He enjoyed going for long car rides, enjoying nature, animals and feeding the geese, fishing, spending time with his family and decorating for holidays.
Sonny is survived by his children, Brenda (Jim) Wagoner, Kasson, MN; Peggy (Gregg) Gunderson, Balsam Lake, WI; Terry Halvorson, Tuscan, AZ; Robert (Teresa) Halvorson, Brownsdale, MN; ten grandchildren, Carrie Ness, Brandon Nelson, Chelssy Wytaske, Samantha Bahl, Alan Wagoner, Katelin Bahl, Paige Gunderson, Elly and Lily Halvorson and Beth Ternes; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ann Moen.
