HAZEL HELEN VOLBERDING
The funeral service for Hazel Helen Volberding will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodge Center with Reverend Robert Lentz officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.
Hazel Helen Volberding, 77, died October 17, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Hazel was born January 2, 1931, the daughter of Ernest and Elisabeth (Utecht) Schmoll in Katherine, North Dakota. Hazel attended grade school in the Claremont area and high school in Dodge Center, graduating in 1948. She was united in marriage to Louis Volberding on September 25, 1949, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodge Center, MN. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, delivered Meals On Wheels, a member of Happy Homemakers Club and the Dodge County American Cancer Society Board. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, was Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Teacher and member of LWML. She worked for the Dodge Center State Bank; Norwest Bank; Dodge Center Star Record and Dodge County Independent. Hazel enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, being with her grandchildren, and creating bulletin board displays for the church.
Hazel is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Ernest) Springer, Burnsville, MN; one son, Gary (Deborah) Volberding, Crystal, MN; five grandchildren, Justin (Libby) Springer, Christine Springer; Stephanie (Matt) Thompson; Benjamin, and Alexander Volberding; one great grandchild, Carson Springer; one brother, Melvin (Myrna) Schmoll, Claremont, MN; four sisters, Viola (Louis) Kraemer, Dodge Center, MN; Helen (Jack) Peterson, Claremont, MN; Ardis (Ronald) Ross, Claremont, MN; and Adeline Schmoll, Owatonna, MN; special friends, Dennis (Patti) Midthun and family, Dodge Center, MN; David (Jan) Thom and family, Custer, SD; Roy (Mary) Giehtbrock and family, Chatfield, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Louis Volberding, November 7, 2001; one son, Steven Volberding in 1970, five brothers, William, Marvin, Leonard, Loren and Ernest.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Dodge Center and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
