Janel Marie Torgerson

Janel Marie Torgerson, mom, grandma, and grandma great, age 84, of Kasson, MN passed early Tuesday morning of January 20, 2026, in her home.

Janel was born on May 3, 1941, in Peterson, Minnesota to Alice (Moran) and Harry Adolph Solberg. She grew up in the Peterson, Rushford, and Bratsburg areas. After graduating high school in 1959, she moved to Rochester and worked at St. Mary’s as a nurse's aide. In November of 1959, she married Hans Torgerson of Lanesboro, Minnesota. Together Janel and Hans had four children, Michelle Torgerson of Rusk, Texas, Michael (Raquel) Torgerson of Lanesboro, Minnesota, Lori Gilchrest of Rusk, Texas, and Lisa Torgerson of Lakeville, Minnesota.

Janel was a homemaker for years. She later cleaned houses and was a cook in the Lanesboro schools. In 1989, she attended school for her medical secretary degree and worked at Mayo Clinic until her retirement in 2006.

Janel will be remembered for her honesty, kindness, caring nature, sense of humor, listening ear, love of family, and most importantly her rock-solid faith.

Along with her children, she is survived by her sister, Norine (Lonny) Remund of Mankato, Minnesota; grandchildren, Logan Torgerson, Amanda (Jeffrey) Hawkins, Wyatt (Mariah) Gilchrest, Lane Gilchrest, Elizabeth (Tye) McLaughlin, Emily (Matt) Bronk, Aaron Bronk, Ivenson Bronk; and her great-granddaughter, Gracie Hawkins.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers, Harold (Janet) Solberg, Wallace (Sandra) Solberg; sister, Carolyn (Carl) Wagner; and her beloved grandson, Zachary Torgerson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th St SE in Kasson, MN, with Pastor Jeff Bernards officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service at the funeral home. A private family interment will be in Arendahl Cemetery in Peterson, MN.
