JOHN DONALD DEWITT, JR.

John Donald DeWitt, Jr. 72, of Dodge Center, MN passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus on December 3, 2018.

John was born on July 25, 1946, to John, Sr. and Leola (Wood) DeWitt in Plainview, MN. He graduated from John Marshall High School. On June 30, 1973, he was united in marriage to Theresa Taylor in Stewartville, MN.

John spent most of his career in various positions at McNeilus Steel. He was a talented musician and played numerous instruments. John was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the choir (he could carry the whole bass section by himself) and performing with puppets. Because of his lifelong health issues, he was unable to play sports, but was a passionate fan, especially of the Triton Cobras, Minnesota Gophers, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings.

John is survived by his best friend and wife, Theresa DeWitt, Dodge Center, MN; his children that he was very proud of, David (Cheryl) DeWitt, Rochester, MN; Carrie (Kirk) Koudelka, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Brady DeWitt, Dodge Center, MN; brothers, Tom DeWitt, Forest Lake, MN; Charles (Robbyn) DeWitt, Crystal, MN; sister, Mary Bigelow, Rogers, AK; and was “Papa John” to six beautiful granddaughters, Katelyn, Jenna, Isabelle, Julia, Victoria, and Brynn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 South Street SW in Dodge Center.

The celebration of his life will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2018, at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, 20 2nd Street NE in Dodge Center with Father Thomas Niehaus celebrating.
