John (Jack) Laurence Young 67, went to heaven while in Hospice Care in North Carolina, December 4, 2020. John was born on December 3, 1953, the son of F. Lloyd Young and Vonda Jacobsen at West Point, NY.
He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1972 and joined the Navy. He served 4 years. He then married his high school sweetheart, Pamela at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, September 4, 1976. They moved to Iowa and John attended college and was a Jr. Vice President at a Savings and Loan and was greatly involved in the US Army Reserve. John joined full time Army in 1990 and they packed up and moved to Fort Dix, NJ. Shortly after arriving, John was sent to Kuwait for Desert Storm. From there they moved to San Juan, PR; Long Island, NY and Jackson, MS. John was sent to Iraq war 2 separate times where he received a Bronze Star for heroism. He retired after 30 plus years of service. In 2016, they moved to Hillsborough, NC.
John was survived by his wife, Pamela, NC; sons, Michael (Jamie) DE; Matthew (Karissa) NC; 3 grandchildren, Alexandra(12) Leah (6) and Wyatt (3); brothers, David (Judy) Rochester, MN; Patrick (Holly) Grand Rapids, MI; Chris (Allison) St. Paul, MN; Jeff, Austin, MN; sisters, Maureen (Tom) Crystal Lake, IL; and Molly (Rick) Charles City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, F.L. Young and Vonda Jacobsen.
A memorial service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, 1800 4th St. NW in Austin, MN on June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating and military honors by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post #330. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Hayfield American Legion in Hayfield. Due to the current health concerns and restrictions, please respect social distancing, and the wearing of face masks. In lieu of flowers, John wanted memorials to go to The Wounded Warriors Project. Blessed be his memory.
