The funeral service for Joy Adora Engelstad will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Pleasant Corners United Methodist Church in rural Kasson, MN with Reverend Karen Seavey officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.
Joy Adora Engelstad, 99, died Sunday morning, March 1, 2009, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, MN.
Joy Adora Trapp was born on February 14, 1910, the daughter of Edward and Emelia (Berkner) Trapp in Ashland Township, Dodge County, MN. Joy graduated from high school in 1927, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1931. Joy was a member of Gamma Omicron Beta Sorority. She was united in marriage to Alfred Engelstad on June 10, 1938, in Dodge Center and later divorced. Joy taught school in Preston, MN from 1931-1933, Dodge Center from 1934-1938, ran a restaurant from 1943-1946, taught in Kasson-Mantorville in 1946, and retired in 1969. She moved to Crest View Villa September 1, 2002, and to Field Crest Care Center in August 2008. Joy was a member of Pleasant Corners United Methodist Church, church organist for over 60 years, and UM Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Monday Musicale, Fortnightly Club; and Minnesota Extension Club. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, fishing, crafts, and sewing.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Marvin) Marquardt, Kasson, MN; three grandchildren, Richard (Jill) Marquardt; Tamara (Wayne) Alberts; Sheila (Danny) Burton; nine great grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Marquardt, Eric, Melissa, and Jacqueline Marquardt; Weston, D.J. and Chloe Alberts; Drew and Breah Burton. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Myron, Stanley and Ralph Trapp, and 1 granddaughter, Cindy.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Dodge Center and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. The family prefers memorials to Pleasant Corners Church.
