Joyce Mildred Gaal

Joyce Mildred Gaal, 92, passed away peacefully at Fieldcrest Nursing home on Monday, July 26 in Hayfield, MN.
Joyce was born on March 24, 1929, at her home in Le Sueur, MN to Max and Mildred Fritze. She graduated from Le Sueur High School. After graduation she worked at the Green Giant Company in Le Sueur.
Joyce met her husband, Ian Gaal, and were married August 31, 1952. They lived in Winona and Bryon, MN before moving to Hayfield in 1954.
Joyce worked at The Hayfield Herald before accepting a position with the Hayfield city clerk’s office. She later became the city clerk and retired in 1991.
Joyce was a member of the Hayfield First Presbyterian Church where she served on the session, taught Sunday school and participated in the women’s association. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Mildred Fritze; brothers, Dean, Eugene and Kenneth; and daughter, Barb Peterson.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Ian, Hayfield, MN; daughters, Deb (Dennis) Myhre, Decorah, IA; and Carol (Paul) Myhre, Granger, IN; 8 grand-children and 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Czaplewski Funeral Home, 501 2nd St. NW Hayfield, MN 55940, 507-477-2259. There will be a graveside service for family following visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be distributed to Hayfield Presbyterian Church, Mayo Clinic Hospice and Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Hayfield.
