Kathy Lynn Nitz

Kathy Lynn Nitz, “GRAM” 66, of Stewartville, MN passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.

Kathy was born on March 15, 1954, in North Baltimore, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Leona (Bower) Smith. She graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in Mount Cory, Ohio in 1972. She attended Methodist Theological Seminary of Ohio obtaining a pastoral degree. Kathy was united in marriage to Joel Harris in 1972, and they had one daughter, Jennifer. On December 15, 1990 she married Carey Nitz and they were married for 28 years when Carey passed in 2019.

Kathy had many careers over her lifetime, from drag car racing to being a waitress, para professional and pastor. She enjoyed her pets, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer French, Stewartville, MN; step children, Autumn (Dontae) Hampton, Tacy Nitz and Brandon (Denise) Nitz; grandchildren, Alex and Kaitlyn, Zachary, Mason, Desira, Zenovia, Brynnleigh and Athena; two sisters, Shelia Pitcher, and Gloria Walter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and Carey.
