Larry Leroy Sumner

Larry Leroy Sumner, 82, of Waltham, MN passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Larry was born on June 22, 1940, in Iowa Falls, IA to Roy and Adeline (Staples) Sumner.  His family moved to Brownsdale, MN at a young age.   He attended Austin High School until he was in 11 ^th grade, and then went on to work at Hormel.  He then worked at Sargeant Grain until his retirement in 2004.   He married Bonnie Ehmke on Valentines Day 1961, together they had three daughters.  They made their home in Waltham, MN and have lived there for over 50 years.

Larry enjoyed fishing and camping.  He took pride in his well-kept yard.  He especially loved mowing with his Cub Cadet Mower from the 70s.  He kept it in show room condition as it was one of his most cherished possessions.  He loved his family and especially looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bonnie Sumner of Waltham, MN; daughters, Kari (Todd) Arndt of Austin, MN, Teri (Joe) Sunderman of Austin, MN, and Kelly (Duane) Whitcomb of Mesa, AZ; siblings, Rita (Robb) Luthe of Brownsdale, MN, Marla (Bob) Ohm of Sparta, WI; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 501 2nd St NW Hayfield, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Geneva Cancer Run or donors’ choice.
