LOWELL GENE “LEWIE” NELSON
The funeral service for Lowell Gene “Lewie” Nelson will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 21, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, MN with the Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Lowell Gene Nelson, age 76, of Hayfield, MN died Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Lowell was born December 17, 1932, in Hayfield Township, the son of Roy and Gillette (Moe) Nelson. Lowell graduated from Hayfield Community School. He was united in marriage to Mavis Bjornson on November 29, 1952. Lowell enjoyed farming, going to auctions, gardening, spending time with family and friends, doing Sudoko puzzles, and was an avid history buff. He will be remembered for his caring nature and storytelling. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Board, the Hayfield Fire Association, and was an officer for Hayfield Township for 24 years.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Mavis; daughter, Jennifer (Dennis) Johnson, of Hayfield, MN; grandson, Chad (Amanda) Johnson, of Byron, MN; granddaughter, Carrie (Ryan) Saxton, of Owatonna, MN; two great-grandchildren, Marie Johnson and Gavin Saxton; one brother, Wesley Nelson, of Rochester, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
