Madaline Ruth Groteluschen

Madaline Ruth Groteluschen, 96, of Rochester, MN died on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Meadow Lakes Memory Care in Rochester, MN.

Madaline was born on October 28, 1923 in Sargeant, MN to Thomas and Nellie (Knapp) Stayner.  She married Ford Cunningham on May 16, 1944 in Michigan and they later divorced.  On July 22, 1989 she married Wayne Groteluschen at Evanger Lutheran Church in Sargeant, MN.

Madaline worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at a bomber plant in Michigan. Over the years she was a waitress at White's Confectionary, Tally Ho, Holiday Inn, and Ramada Inn.  Her personality and work ethic made her a favorite among many customers.  She was a special 'Grandma' to many children as a childcare sitter.  Madaline loved music, playing the guitar, and singing to her family that has many memories of her.  She loved to dance the Waltz and the Polka.  She had a lifelong love of horses and loved to cook for her family including her famous Christmas goodie boxes.  She was a member of the Evanger Lutheran Church and the Hayfield American Legion Auxiliary.

Madaline is survived by her husband, Wayne of Rochester, MN; children, Kenneth (Ruth) Cunningham of Stockport, OH, Charlotte Biehl of Beverly, OH, and daughter-in-law Linda Cunningham of Sherman, TX; step-children Walt Groteluschen, David Groteluschen, Denise Groteluschen, Diane St. James, Marie Samuelson, Julie Harlander, Carla (David) Bergh.  She has 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ray, Jiggs, and Tommy; her sisters, Marvel, Margaret, Edna, and Erma; her son Bob; sons-in-law Larry and Dwight; and great grand-daughter Faith Elizabeth.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660 ^th Ave in Sargeant, with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating.  Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 501 2 ^nd St NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church.  Interment will be in Evanger Cemetery in Sargeant, MN.
