Mavis Anne Berge

Mavis Anne Berge passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN. She was 95 years old.

Mavis Anne Ellingson was born on January 5, 1931, in Austin, MN to Carl and Ruth (Nichols) Ellingson. She was told that it was a beautiful spring like day. She grew up on the family farm east of Hayfield, MN.

Mavis attended Country School west of Olso thru the 8th grade at Benson, some folks called it Qualle, District #49. In 9th grade, she went to Hayfield High School graduating in 1948. After high school she attended Teachers Training at Austin Junior College. In 1949, she began teaching at the Jensen School District #70, then at Flatta District #35 for 5 years and Sylverness District #47 for 2 years.

On April 5, 1950, she married Andrew Berge of rural Kasson. She was a stay-at-home Mom and Andrew’s assistant farmer.

In 1973, she began working at the Holiday Inn in Rochester, MN. In 1993, she went to work for the Dodge County Nursing Service retiring in 2006.

In 2001, she moved off of the farm to Westfield Court Townhomes in Kasson, MN. She always commented on what wonderful neighbors she had at Westfield Court. Mavis was always open to welcoming visitors into her home, many from out-of-state that needed a place to stay while going through the Mayo Clinic. She was very interested in genealogy and enjoyed sharing information with others who were working on their family history

Mavis is survived by her children, Michael (Lavonne) Berge of Kasson, MN, Janet (Tom) Myhro of Byron, MN, Carol (Steve) Hegna of Duluth, MN, Jon (Mary) Berge of Mahtomedi, MN, and Marilyn (Roger) Southwick of Lakeside, TX; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew Berge; grandchildren, Kanton Bonser and Renee Southwick, and grandson-in-law, Cory Slifko.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2026, at South Zumbro Lutheran Church, 68905 280th Ave in Kasson, MN with Pastor Pete Wyttenbach and Pastor Jeff Bernards officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th St SE in Kasson, MN and one hour prior to her service at the church. Interment will be in South Zumbro Lutheran Cemetery in Kasson, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to South Zumbro Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN.
