Merton Keith Unnasch

Merton Keith Unnasch, 86, of Mantorville, MN passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.

Merton was born on June 17, 1938, in La Crosse, WI to Merton and Avis (Feller) Unnasch.  He worked as a farm hand until he joined the United States Army on November 28, 1959.  He served 2 tours in Korea, 2 tours in Vietnam, and 4 tours in Germany.  On July 6, 1979, while serving in Germany, he met his wife, Heidi Lang.    He then served tours at Ft. Stewart and Ft. Bennings, GA, Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Belvoir, VA, and Aberdeen Proofing Ground, MD.  He retired from the US Army with 27 years of service and the rank of Master Sargent.   After his retirement, he and Heidi moved to Mantorville, MN to be closer to their families again.

Merton is survived by his wife, Heidi Unnasch; son, Marc (Nicole) Unnasch; two grandchildren, Hailey and Dominic; brothers, Richard (Winifred) Unnasch and Jerome (Sharon) Unnasch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Faye and Diane.

A celebration of life will be from 10:00-12:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th ST SE Kasson, MN.  Interment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
