Milward Nordean Simonson

Milward Simonson, 95, of Hayfield, MN passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, MN.

Milward was born on August 23, 1928, in Sargeant Township to George and Ragnhilda Simonson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1946. He married Donna Wincentsen on New Year’s Day 1952, in Blooming Prairie, MN and together they raised three sons and were married more than 70 years.

Milward was in the U.S. Army and served as a Sergeant, in the Korean War.  He also worked at Harpel Chevrolet in Blooming Prairie before moving with Donna and their three sons to Hayfield.  He spent most of his work-life at IBM in Rochester, MN. After retiring from IBM, he enjoyed several years of driving school bus for Hayfield schools.

Milward enjoyed numerous activities with family, extended family, and friends, including bowling, camping, fishing, hunting, high school sporting events, family reunions, holiday get-togethers, and of course, leutefisk and lefse. He and Donna were also able to enjoy trips to places such as Alaska, Washington, Colorado, and even Norway.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Milward was survived by his wife Donna, and their three sons; Dana (Vicki), Adrian (Monica), and Arlan (Penny); his brother Jacob; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Milward was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters; Alice, Esther, Ruby, and Gloria.

Donna and family would like to thank everyone at Field Crest Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care of Milward.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Blooming Prairie, 104 1st Ave NE in Blooming Prairie MN, with Pastor Matt Fennell officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.   Interment will be in Blooming Prairie cemetery with military honors provided by the Hayfield American Legion Post 330.
