Phyllis Ann Purvis

Phyllis Ann Purvis, 83, longtime resident of Kasson, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN.

Phyllis was born on September 17, 1941, in Garden City, Minnesota to Flavious and Laura (Hislop) McGrew. She attended and graduated from Welcome Memorial High School in Garden City, MN in 1959. She married Garry Purvis on June 25, 1960, in Garden City and together they had three children, Scott, Brent, and Todd.

Phyllis worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis prior to her marriage. In the Fall of 1963, Phyllis and her husband moved to the Kasson/Mantorville area where they would reside for the rest of their lives. She raised her children before returning to school to complete her nursing degree. She worked at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, holding several roles including as a nurse at the Methodist Hospital, before the two hospitals joined.  She was a longtime faithful member of the Methodist Church in Kasson, MN. She almost never turned down an opportunity to volunteer at her church, participating in many of the church’s clubs and events. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards, having coffee with her friends and volunteering. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Flavious and Laura McGrew; her husband, Garry Purvis; brother, Robert (Betty) McGrew; sister, Ruth (Jerry) Pierce; father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Edna Purvis; brothers in law, Don Siems, and Mick Davis; and sister-in-law, Sharon McGrew.

She is survived by her children, Scott (Deborah) Purvis, Brent (Deborah) Purvis, and Todd (Christine) Purvis; grandchildren, Michael (Jesslyn) Purvis, Jacqueline Purvis, Laura (Ben) Hoffman, Jeffrey (Britney) Purvis, Mary (Michael) Crump, Kelly (Chris) Lame, Katie Akin, Kerri (Brad) Snavlin, Mathew Purvis (Tracy), Alyssa (Jordan) Swanson, Eric (Nicole) Purvis, Brandon Purvis, and Steffanie Purvis; thirty-four great grandchildren; siblings, Elwin (Alice) McGrew, Alice Siems, Laurel Davis, and Maurice (Betty Sue) McGrew; in laws, Sandra (Dale) Starr, Ann (Ray) Day, Willis (Paula) Purvis; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Grace Methodist Church, 801 5th Ave NW in Kasson, MN with Pastor Jacob Hanson officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service at the church. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or Grace Methodist Church.
