Rachel A. Severance, 94, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2018. She was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on May 25, 1924, to Reverend Stanley and Olive (Rogers) Williams. In 1942, she graduated from Balaton (MN) High School, then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings. She married her high school sweetheart, Lewis Severance, prior to his deployment as a B-17 navigator during WW II. Upon his return, the couple moved to Minneapolis, where Rachel worked in the payroll department at the University of Minnesota while Lewis attended dental school. In 1950, they made their home in Kasson.
A loving Christian spouse, mother, and grandmother, Rachel was involved in many local church and civic activities. She was a longstanding member of The First Presbyterian Church in Kasson and devoted her life to serving God and loving her family. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth. She is survived by her husband of nearly 74 years, Lewis, four children, Thomas, Jan (Lon) Krieg, Gary (Angela) and Paul (Ann), eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Rachel A. Severance will be held on August 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church,
101 6th Ave NW
in Kasson, preceded by visitation at 9:00 a.m.. A lunch will be served at the church following the service. A private inurnment service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Preston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The First Presbyterian Church in Kasson.
