RICHARD CARL WELSH

Richard Carl Welsh, age 78, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Prairie Meadows Senior Living in Kasson, MN.

He was born February 4, 1936, to Carl and Ethel (Bergstresser) Welsh in Madison, South Dakota.  As a child, they lived in Baudett, MN.  They then moved to Dodge Center in the early 1940’s.  Richard graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1955, and Rochester Junior College in 1957.

He married Carol Ann Boyum in 1958, at the First Congregational Church in Dodge Center, where he was a lifelong member. They resided in the same house since their marriage in Dodge Center.  Over the years, Richard raised turkeys, hogs, mink, and was a crop farmer who grew corn and soybeans.  He served as president of Quality Farms.  Later, he farmed with his son, Daniel growing corn and soybeans.  After retirement, Richard enjoyed winters spent with Carol in Mesa, Arizona.  He also enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars.

In the past years, he had been a member of the Hiawatha Chapter of Antique Auto Club of America since 1976, and the Cadillac/LaSalle Club.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carol Welsh, Dodge Center, MN; sons, Richard (Shari) Welsh, of Dodge Center and Daniel (Sue) Welsh, of rural Claremont;  grandchildren, Richard Welsh Jr, Danielle (Jacob) Snyder, Michelle Welsh, and Rachel Welsh; a great-grandson, Griffin Snyder; siblings, Roger (Ramona) Welsh, of Dodge Center, Joyce (Scott) Farmer, of Jackson, Mississippi, and Janice (Francis) Sullivan of Wabasha; and many  nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard’s family wishes to extend appreciation and thanks to the loving care that was provided to him at Prairie Meadows (Rose Court) Assisted Living.

Memorials can be suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the donor's choice.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at the First Congregational Church in Dodge Center.

Visitation will be at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home 25 South Street SW on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Dodge Center.
