ROBERT H. MILLER
The memorial service for Robert H. Miller will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Dodge Center United Methodist Church with Reverend Michelle Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center with military honors by the Dodge Center American Legion Post #384.
Robert H. Miller, 87, of Rochester, MN and formerly of Dodge Center died on February 23, 2009, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.
Robert (Bob) Miller was born on December 10, 1921, in Ridgpoint, IA. He was raised in the LuVerne, IA area where he graduated from high school in 1939. Following graduation he helped on the family farm until enlisting in the Army in 1943. He became a tail gunner on a B17 bomber, stationed in Italy. On December 25, 1944, they were shot down and taken prisoner to Barth Germany. Later he was awarded the Purple heart for injuries. The compound was liberated in May 1945, and on July 28, 1945, he married Doris Jensen at the Methodist Church in Rutland, IA. The couple farmed in the LuVerne, IA area until moving to their farm in Dodge Center, MN in 1956. Along with farming he worked at IBM for 6 years, Dodge Center ASC, Ashland Township, Pride Seed Corn Sales and remodeled houses. In 1988, the couple retired to Dodge Center and in 2000, to Rochester. Bob enjoyed dancing to the big bands, playing cards, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, telling jokes and stories, visiting family and friends, and spending 27 winters in Mesa, AZ. He was a member of the Dodge Center United Methodist Church, American Legion, VFW, Ex POW’s and Disabled Veterans.
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Miller; daughter Diane Miller, both of Rochester, MN; grandson, Jesse Fritzinger and his fiancé, Suzan; great granddaughter, Evelynn Fritzinger; and a sister, Helen Burtis, Mason City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 6 sisters.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Dodge Center United Methodist Church. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Dodge Center is in charge of arrangements.
