Robert John Schaefer

Robert “Bob” John Schaefer, 80, of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024, at his home in Kasson, MN.

Bob was born on December 25, 1943, to Wendelin and Dora (Nettesheim) Schaefer in Waukesha, WI.  After graduating from Pewaukee High School in 1961, Bob served our country as a Gunnery Sergeant in the Vietnam War.  Upon arriving home, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned a degree in accounting. Bob settled in the Madison area where he raised his children and worked for the State of Wisconsin, as an auditor for 30 years.

Bob loved to laugh and was unconditionally generous and thoughtful of all those around him. He cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren and made it to as many of their events as possible. Bob was also an avid Badger football fan, cheering the team on as a season ticket holder for many years.

Bob and Sandy treasured time with their family and friends. They were constantly on the move, visiting people and making lifelong memories. They had a special bond with their high school classmates, getting together on a regular basis.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Schaefer; his mother, Dora Gahan; his father, Wendelin Schaefer; brothers, Daniel Schaefer and Gregory Schaefer; and sister, Barbara Wittenberg.

Bob is survived by his sons, Derek (Heather) Schaefer, Dennis (Christie) Schaefer; daughter, Melissa Schaefer; brothers, Wendelin (Jody) Schaefer, Charles (Marianne) Schaefer, and Chad (Cheryl) Schaefer; along with his grandchildren, Dryden, Alexa, Preston, Lauren, Adrias, Romel, Demarius and Josiah; and great grandchildren, Paisley, Tatum and Kade.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th St SE in Kasson, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow his service.  A private family burial will be held at a later date in Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
