Shay Owen Buer

Shay Owen Buer, age 11, lost his life in an ATV accident on August 4, 2021.  There will be a visitation for him on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 2-7:00 PM at the Hayfield School, 9 6th Ave SE Hayfield, MN.  A funeral mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 2nd St NE Hayfield, MN, at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 14, 2021, with visitation an hour prior.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Hayfield Youth Baseball, Dodge County Youth Hockey, or Lourdes High School Hockey.

Shay was born on November 4, 2009, in Willmar MN to parents, Ryan and Jessica Buer.  He was the youngest of three children, having two older sisters; Chasidy and Kiley.  He was baptized November 22, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar.  Shay attended Redeemer Lutheran preschool and in 2015 moved with his family to a hobby farm in Blooming Prairie and began attending Hayfield Elementary School from Kindergarten thru Fifth grade.  He received his first Holy Communion April 22, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield.  Shay was excited to begin middle school this coming year.

Shay was an outgoing child that had a strong faith and loved sports.  He spent his summers playing baseball with the Hayfield youth baseball team, and his winters playing hockey with the Dodge County Wildcats.  Shay enjoyed attending church and was always excited to help and be an altar server every chance he could get.  Everyone knew Shay for his infectious smiles, his loving hugs, his ability to chit chat, and his hockey hair.

Shay is survived by his parents, Ryan and Jessica; his sisters, Chasidy (special Friend Zachary Razink), and Kiley; his great grandpa, Francis Buer; grandparents, Paul and Mona Buer and Doris Richter; uncles, Nate (Dana) Buer, Tim (Amber) Buer, Bryan (Holly) Richter, David Richter (Special friend Sarah Holbrook), Aunt Chrissy Quimby; cousins, Kamryn, Everson, Maleah Buer, Ethan (Camilla), Cedric, Zachary, Joshua, Carson, Jayda Richter, and Dylan Quimby.  He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Gregory Richter and great grandparents, Jeane Buer, Curtis and Helen Fossen, Fabian and Bernice Richter, John and Dorothy Braith.
