Steven Rodger Sorenson

November 27, 1956 — July 23, 2025

Mantorville

Steven “Steve” Rodger Sorenson, lovingly known as “Sorny,” passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Steve was the son of Rodger and Vivian Sorenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Scott. He is survived by his siblings Dan Sorenson (Sandi) and Tami Weitzel (Kevin); Scott’s widow, Julie Sorenson, and her partner, Tim Lenhart; along with many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Steve shared nearly 16 loving years with his fiancée, Kris Johnson, in Mantorville, Minnesota. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, road trips up north, sports games, quiet evenings on the deck with a koozie, and the kind of companionship that only true soulmates know.

Steve had two children with his former wife, Donna Sorenson. He was a proud father to Tia Malouff (Michael) and Derek Sorenson (Megan), and a devoted grandfather to Max, Peter, and Sonny. He never missed a birthday, concert, or game, and was, without question, the best grandpa ever. Whether he was dressed up for Halloween, playing catch, or firing Nerf bullets in the living room, he filled every moment with laughter and love.

After a long and respected career at Firestone, Steve retired and embraced the freedom to enjoy life on his own terms. He spent his retirement doing what he loved most—sharing time with friends and family, traveling with Kris, cheering on the Vikings and Twins, and savoring peaceful evenings at home. Those years were filled with the kind of everyday joy he cherished most.

Steve had a quiet nature, a gentle sense of humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s small joys. He wasn’t a foodie in the traditional sense, but he had a real appreciation for trying new dishes and creating imaginative meals. Every year, he joined his kids and their spouses for a family chili cook-off. Though he never took home the trophy (despite trying his absolute hardest), it became a beloved tradition and a running family joke. On the flip side, he did win the Sorenson Pumpkin Carving Contest a few times, which he was quite proud of.

He found enjoyment in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, golfing, attending concerts, or spending time with friends. Above all, Steve loved his family. His kind heart, calm presence, and easygoing spirit made everyone feel welcome. He will be remembered fondly with smiles, laughter, and deep appreciation for a life fully lived.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, 308 2nd St NW, Dodge Center, Minnesota. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Steve by playing a round of golf, listening to good music, cooking something creative, or sitting on the deck with someone you love—just as he would have done.
