Thomas Ray Sutherland

Thomas Ray Sutherland, 55, of Claremont, MN passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Thomas Ray Sutherland was born on December 27, 1964 in Escondido, CA, the son of Ralph Payne and Julie (Sutherland) Schluesner. He attended Chatfield schools.  After graduation he entered the United States Army in 1982 and was stationed in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in 1986.   Tom married Dawn Williams on April 7, 1990 in Stillwater, MN and in their union were blessed with three children.

Tom worked as a quality inspector for McNelius Truck and Manufacturing for the last 22 years.  His passion was music and playing his guitar.  He loved rock, especially Led Zeppelin and ACDC, along with grilling.   He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, along with his dog, Bear.  He was selfless and always put others before himself.

Tom is survived by his wife, Dawn Sutherland of Claremont, MN; children, Tia (James) Marquette of Little Falls, MN, Carmen (Riley) Sutherland of Dodge Center, MN, Dylan (Bri) Sutherland of Dodge Center, MN; grandchildren, MaKaila Marquette, Nickolas Sutherland, Espen Kispert, Karter Sutherland, and Novella Kispert; his mother, Julie (Butch) Schluesner of Rochester, MN; and one brother, Joe (Cindy) Sutherland of Rochester, MN.  He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Payne.

A memorial service for Tom will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday March 7, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church, 121 East St N in Claremont with Pastor Doug Walters officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the church.   Interment will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston at a later date with military honors.
