VIRGINIA LOUISE JESSEN

Virginia Louise Jessen, 92,  formerly of Hayfield, MN, passed away on August 23, 2018, at Rochester Health Services East where she had resided for the past six years..

The youngest of four children, Virginia Louise was born February 24, 1926, in Dolton, Illinois to Thaddeus Zoller and Eva Marie (Williams) Zoller.

In 1942, Jacob Jessen and family moved in next door. It didn't take long and they were sweethearts. Love was in bloom but was interrupted by World War II. Jake was drafted and stationed in Juneau, Alaska for over two years. Shortly after Jake's discharge from the army they were married on Tuesday, April 23, 1946 - a marriage that lasted nearly 68 years. In June, 1966, they began a new adventure, sold their home in Dolton and moved to Hayfield, Minnesota. They settled in what would be their dream home - a house built in 1920 with 40 acres, an old barn, a windmill, room for a spacious garden and apple trees. Virginia was a great cook and gardener. She made jellies, froze and canned vegetables harvested from their garden.

Virginia was known for her teasing and sense of humor and always hoped people didn't take her seriously.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; sister, Marie Fike; brothers, Robert and Jack Zoller; and son-in-law, Dennis Tarpenning. She is survived by her daughters, Laura (John) Hagedorn; Barbara Tarpenning; and Eva (Brian) Fjerstad; 8 grandchildren, Christine, Cassandra, Elissa, Jeffrey, Angela, Joseph, Anne and Amber; 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

A special mention of gratitude to her Bingo buddies, Elaine Bergeron and Edna Marchand. Thanks to the staff at Rochester Health Services East and Seasons Hospice caregivers.
