William Joel Hughes

William (Bill) Joel Hughes, 84, passed away on September 25th surrounded by family at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.

Bill was born on May 20, 1935, the son of Joseph and Mary (Pirkl) Hughes in Dodge County, MN.  He attended West Concord Schools. Bill was united in marriage to Patricia (Pat) Wichser on September 3, 1955 in West Concord, MN.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960, stationed in Germany and was employed as a machinist at IBM in Rochester from 1960-1991.

Bill and Pat enjoyed spending time at Leech Lake for some 22 years and wintering in Arkansas for 20 years.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, traveling and playing cards. Bill was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson, MN.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pat Hughes, Kasson, MN; daughters, Pam (Scott) Singfiel, Mantorville, MN; Jody (John) Vossen, Kasson, MN; Diane (Greg) Miller, New Hope, MN; and son, Todd (Sue) Hughes, Kasson, MN; eight grandchildren, Tom (Kristy) Singfiel, Stacy (John) Putman, Cory Allen, Briana (Brian) Kramer, Jordan (Hans) Backlund, Bailey Miller, Isaiah Miller, and Amelia Hughes. Eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Hughes, Rochester, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1904 Mantorville Avenue North in Kasson, MN.  The funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Father John Lasuba celebrating. Inurnment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery in Mantorville, MN with military honors by the County Wide Military Funeral Detail.

The family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association, Parkinson’s Research, Holy Family Catholic Church or donor’s choice.
